Our real ales and ciders
In recent years the Royal Standard is increasingly being described as a destination pub for the real ale connoisseur. We offer over 10 real ales, 7 of which are constantly changing and 4 proper ciders mainly from Westons Cider Co. Our permanent beers include Hopback Summer Lightning, St Austell Tribute and Caledonian Deuchars IPA. A beer from Dark Star and one from a local brewery are always available.
At the Royal Standard there is a beer for every taste and occasion. From the light, hoppy, citrus ale to the dark, heavy stouts and porters. We also keep a wide range of beers at different strengths from a weaker session beer to stronger premium ales.
Our excellently kept beer cellars provide 5 cask beers on hand pull and 5 on gravity.
Our favourites
Hopback – Summer Lightning 5% ABV
A trendsetter in the brewing industry; the original Summer ale is brewed all year round. An extremely pleasant bitter, straw coloured beer with a terrific fresh, hoppy aroma. This, coupled with an intense bitterness, leads to an excellent long, dry finish.
St Austell – Tribute 4.2% ABV
“Tribute is a magnificent example of a bronze coloured English bitter, with a rich aroma of biscuity malt and tart citrus fruit from the Willamette hops. Dark Star – HopHead 3.8% ABV
An extremely clean-drinking pale golden ale with a strong floral aroma and elderflower notes from the Cascade hops. This beer is full-bodied and full-flavoured yet gentle enough to make it a favourite session beer.
